I'm an engineer with a small business and a slowly increasing turnover, who's had a crap accountant who I think is loosing her mind and ideally needs to retire, or get some professional and competent staff. The multiple feeble excuses that I got from her when she filed my year end almost a month late to companies house, and hasn't even bothered at all to file to HMRC? It took her 7 weeks to submit accounts that amounted to less than £4000.00, then she tells me that it was my fault for not bringing them in until the first week in March??? I have friends who also feel that they are being let down by her as well! Anyone would think that I give her a carrier bag full of scrunged up receipts and no records whatsoever with the amount of time it took her to submit my accounts. She herself, is very experienced and knowledgeable about tax affairs, but I just can't trust her anymore to manage my tax affairs due to her lies and excuses. Because I think that she will file them late again no matter what month I give her my accounts. So I will be looking elsewhere to have them managed. In the meantime I will learn about book keeping as well as accountancy, and present my books in a more professional standard equal to that of a professional book keeper. Instead of the 2 page ledger record book that is 100% cross referenced with receipts and bank statements. Then I can submit my own tax returns and file my own year end, save on professional costs, save on unnecessary fines, and won't have listen to feeble excuses from accountants that cash my cheque for their fees within 7 days of dropping my accounts, take 8 weeks to submit my year end to companies house, and in turn don't even bother to submit them to the HMRC. Here's to self initiative and success.
